published: 2021-06-11

In Tableau, data powder usually uses highlighting to highlight the data selected in the table. However, click Select, click Cancel, just to view the data, it is inevitable.

If you don't have to select it, hover over data, you can highlight the current data (as shown below), isn't it better?

How to achieve it? You can try to add an action and control set.

The Tableau trick we want to share with you this issue is: Add operation and control set highlight data.

For the convenience of learning, chestnuts use Tableau to own the "example-supermarket" data source. After mastering the chestnut method, the data powder can try to use its own data.

Specific steps are as follows:

1. Connect the data source

Open Tableau Desktop, connect "Example - Supermarket" data source, create a new worksheet.

2. Create a calculation field

First, create a calculation field: Rank. Right-click on the "Data" pane, select "Create" - "Calculate Field" in the drop-down menu. Type functions:

Rank_unique (SUM ([Sales]))

3, create a view

Drag and drop the dimension "category" to the row, drag and drop the calculation field "Rank" to drag and drop the dimension "province / autonomous region" in the "Mark" card, and the tag type selection: Line.

Right click on "Rank" capsules on the line, in the drop-down menu, select "Calculation Bas" - "Provincial / Autonomous Region".

Press and hold the Control key and click "Rank" capsules on the row to drag and drop right, copy a "Rank" on the line. In the Rank (2) tag, the tag type is selected as: square.

Right click on the second "Rank" capsule on the row, select "Biax" in the drop-down menu.

Right-click on the diagram ordinate, select "Sync Ax) in the drop-down menu.

Drag and drop the calculation field "Rank" in the "Rank (2)" tag card, and then click the "Tab" button, check "Show Tag Tag" in the Edit box, align the selection: Central, home.

4, create a set

Below, the key steps are highlighted.

First, right click on the dimension "province / autonomous region" field and select "Create" - "Set" in the drop-down menu.

In the "Edit Set" dialog box that pops up, the name is changed to: province, click OK.

Create a calculation field: highlight. Right-click on the "Data" pane, select "Create" - "Calculate Field" in the drop-down menu. Type functions:

IF [provinces] THEN "Color" Else "No color" end

Then drag and drop the calculation field "Highlight" in the Color of the "All" tag, and then click the color "highlight" capsule in the tag card, select "Properties" in the drop-down menu.

Here, the steps of the worksheet are completed.

5, create dashboard

New dashboards, drag the just completed worksheet. Click the top menu bar "Dashboard" - "Operation".

In the pop-up dialog box, select Add Action - "Change Set Value".

In the "Add Set Action" dialog box that pops up, the set action is edited as shown below.
